GET INVOLVED
There are lots of ways you can get involved with Subtext Magazine.
DISTRIBUTE
We’re always looking for new distributors, both in the UK and further afield.
- Do you own or work in a shop that’s interested in stocking Subtext?
- Are you having an event that you could sell Subtext at?
- Could you recommend us to your local bookshop?
If you can help us out with distribution, please get in touch at info@subtextmagazine.co.uk.
CONTRIBUTE
Subtext is always on the look out for new contributors to fill the pages with exciting ideas, feminist analysis and stimulating opinion. At this time we cannot pay for articles we print, all money made by subtext goes back into printing and postage costs for Subtext.
We want to publish a broad range of articles encompassing cultural attitudes and myths, social trends, political analysis and opinion, current affairs as well as movies, TV, magazines, books and advertising. Profiles of, and interviews with, feminist culture-makers and business owners are welcome. We’re also looking for reviews and reviews to contribute to our reviews blog, excerpts of which will appear in the print magazine.
You don’t have to be a ‘journalist’ or ‘professional writer’ to contribute to Subtext, just get in touch with your idea.
If you would like to be added to our contributors database, and kept up to date about submission requests and potential assignments, just send us an email at info@subtextmagazine.co.uk. Finished articles and query letters are both welcome.
Deadlines
The contribution deadlines for upcoming issues are as follows:
Issue 9 26 November 2009
Issue 10 25 March 2010
Issue 11 22 July 2010
Written contributions
We’re looking for broadly two different types of article, features (up to 2,500 words) and shorter pieces (up to 1,500 words).
Features are generally chunky critiques, essays, or articles on pop culture from a feminist perspective. Interviews, reported pieces, and critical essays are welcome.
Shorter pieces generally consist of columns on film, television, language, politics, publishing etc, in the form of reviews, critical essays, activist profiles, and more.
That’s not all – if you’ve got a great idea for a feature that doesn’t fit into what’s above get in touch. We’re flexible and want to support as many different voices as possible.
Image
Artists, illustrators, cartoonists, photographers! We need people to illustrate articles in the magazine, as well as contribute photo stories. At the moment we’re printing in black and white – so any artwork needs to be optimised for black and white printing. Get in touch to discuss artwork submissions at info@subtextmagazine.co.uk
Send your contributions along whenever the mood strikes, or join our contributors database (for writers and artists) and we’ll send you submissions requests for each issue.
